There are several questions to ask when selecting a concreting professional.
- Does the concreter have a license
- Are they registered with the BSA: Building Service Authority
- Will they provide a written quote .... this is essential to bind the contractor to the price
- Do they have insurance
- Will they provide a written warranty on the work .. is the warranty in plain English and easy to understand
- What will the warranty cover
- How soon can they do the work and how long will it take to complete
- Will they guarantee a site clean up after the work is complete or are YOU going to be left with a mess
Some tips for getting an accurate quote.
- Do your research first and know:
- What type of finish you would like
- If you can, measure the area yourself so you know how many square metres it is .... this will help you gauge the ability and honesty of quoting contractors
- Listen to the recommendations of quoting contractors BUT be firm in explaining what you want .... after all it is your job and not the contractors
- Do not rely on quotes from contractors who do not even look at the site. All concreting jobs are different and a site inspection and measure is a MUST for an accurate price. Sight unseen quotes can result in price rises on the day of the work.
- Insist on written quotes and make sure what is being quoted on is the work you want .... this will help avoid 'variation' costs
- Get more than one written quote.
- Insist on seeing a sample of the written warranty.
- View images of the contractor's previous work and if they have a website review it carefully ... the quality of the site says something about their attention to detail.
- Do not decide on price alone, your concreting job has to last for yours and the quality of the work and finish matters.
- A question to ask YOURSELF were they well presented, professional and courteous in their dealings with YOU ... this tells you something about their work and what they will be like to have around your home.
